Rev. Alexandra Childs, BFA, M.Div. : Alexandra has been
creating since she was two. After attending Pratt Institute, for painting
and ceramics, in New York, she earned a certificate in Forestry & Wildlife
Management from Sterling College in Vermont. Then graduated from Rhode Island
School of Design (RISD) with a BFA in Graphic Design in 1991. From a non-church
family, Alexandra was surprized to receive a call to ministry, three years
after completing RISD. However, once enrolled at Pacific School of Religion
in Berkeley where her theology, social critique, eco-Christianity naturally
integrated with her arts, the purpose of the call became clear.
Today Alexandra combines work in 2D, 3D and 4D, mixed media, sculptural,
sacred space, liturgical arts and ritual, building environments that are
as beautiful and they are transformative. Alexandra is a co-founder of the
collaborative organization called Artists Revitalizing & Transforming
Sacred Space or ARTSS, and is a minister in the United Church of Christ,
where she finds God still speaking. Over the last ten years she has ministered
with UCC churches in Orinda, Benicia, and Kensington. Most recently she
has been pastor to Skyline Community Church in the Oakland Hills, and the
Community Church of Belmont. Currently Alexandra is increasing her availability
to Bay Area churches to offer the arts in many capacities & to create
sacred spaces throughout the country. She lives in an Alameda bungalow on
the West End with her three cats, Spirit, Atlantis & Nala.
